REVOLUTION was founded in the fall of 2022 with a simple idea: after nearly three years of COVID-19 disruptions and distance learning, our students wanted to experience the joy of making music together again.

 

The original ensemble consisted of 14 singers in grades 9–12 and one incredibly talented seventh-grade vocal percussionist. As we returned to in-person rehearsals, we began reading a cappella scores simply for fun. Without instruments or accompaniment, our students discovered the excitement and challenge of creating every sound with nothing but their voices. It was something completely new for our program—and, for our students, it felt truly revolutionary.

 

It didn’t take long to realize we had something special.

 

Just a few months after the group’s formation, REVOLUTION accepted an invitation to compete at the Wyvern Invitational A Cappella Festival at Kingswood Oxford School in January 2023. With only two weeks to prepare a complete competition set, the ensemble took the stage for its very first public performance.

 

What happened next exceeded everyone’s expectations.

 

REVOLUTION earned Second Place in its competition debut and received the Outstanding Choreography Award, proving that this brand-new ensemble could compete with some of the region’s most established programs. That unforgettable day marked the beginning of a journey that continues to inspire our students and our community.

 

Today, REVOLUTION has grown into one of New England’s premier scholastic a cappella ensembles. The group proudly represents Springfield Conservatory of the Arts, Springfield Public Schools, and The Fabulous 413, performing throughout the Northeast, competing at major festivals, collaborating with world-class artists, and serving as ambassadors for arts education in Western Massachusetts.

 

In December 2025, REVOLUTION reached another milestone when they were invited to open for the legendary, 10-time Grammy Award-winning vocal group TAKE 6, a performance that reflected just how far the ensemble had come since those first rehearsals in 2022.
